In a world where images speak louder than words, YouthLens: Empowering Rural Youth through PhotoVoice gave young people the opportunity to tell their stories through the lens of a camera. During this inspiring initiative, participants explored the power of PhotoVoice, a creative method that combines photography and storytelling to reflect on community life and express ideas for positive change.The journey began with a series of interactive workshops where participants learned what PhotoVoice is and how it can be used as a tool for social engagement. Then, we went beyond the classroom, exploring the rural villages around Craiova by bike, capturing the authentic beauty, challenges, and spirit of rural life. Each photo told a story of community, tradition, and resilience. Back in Craiova, participants continued their discovery through city explorations, community based dynamics workshops, photo editing sessions, and editorial meetings where they reflected on the meanings behind their images. Together, they selected the most powerful photos and prepared for a public exhibition.The result was a vibrant PhotoVoice Exhibition hosted at Barcicleta, one of Craiova’s most creative local venues. Visitors were invited to see the world through the eyes of rural youth and engage in meaningful dialogue about the realities of life outside urban centers. To close the project, participants joined an open debate on “The Future of Rural Europe”, where they discussed the role of young people in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and creative rural communities. YouthLens proved that a simple photograph can spark reflection, inspire action, and give a voice to those who are often unheard. Through images, stories, and shared experiences, young people discovered not only their surroundings but also themselves.
